Earthquake, Aftershocks, Pandemic and Social Distancing Dinner

Guess What's for Dinner?
We’re Back!!! It's been a few years since our last real experiment.  If you haven't been here before, go check out the first family food experiment that involved NO GROCERY SHOPPING for 42 days in 2008.  We lived out of our fridge, freezer, and pantry with NO visits to the grocery store for six weeks. Some neighbors made occasional Door Dash donations of things like cilantro and citrus fruit before Door Dash was a thing.  But for the most part, we got by on our own devices with years of good old fashioned Mormon Prep Work in Self Reliance to back us up.

The year after our first experiment we found ourselves involuntarily "self-employed" for the first and only time ever.  Our experiment 12 months before Gordon was laid off from his job proved invaluable for the entire next year we spent without a reliable income.

Once again, we find ourselves in unique circumstances.  Our experiments are generally saved for the fourth quarter of the year.  But this year, at the tail end of the 1st quarter we are in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and today we had the largest earthquake in almost 30 years.

Q. What do you make for dinner after an earthquake, 20+ aftershocks, and COVID-19 social distancing requirements?
A. Whatever you have on hand.

Tonight’s Fare: Veggie-dogs and Coleslaw with Fries and Tahini Sauce - Recipes Below

Dinner Table Discussion: Best and Worst of Earthquake Aftermath andCOVID-19 Quarantine

Mariah - 45
Best - Naps in the daytime, nowhere to be, slow down of all of life, everyone is OKAY after showing up in the middle of a shaking house in their underwear at 7:09 a.m.
Worst - Earthquake and aftershocks nausea AND not hugging visitors

Gordon - 52
Best - Didn’t have to go into work.  It saves me like 3 hours commuting.
Worst - When I just wanna have a slow day and periodically check-in and stuff happens that causes me to have to actually do my work more than full time in a day

Elise - 19
Best - We make SUCH good food
Worst - Cooped in

Preston - 19
Best- No pressure to do anything besides laundry, I haven't spent any money
Worst - Not as many movies available to stream as you'd think

Hannah - 17
Best - I just rotate between 4 outfits and it’s so liberating.
Worst - ISOLATION
And - Pretty glad I didn’t have to have that earthquake and then have to go to work straight after
But -  It sucks that it's the end of the world
